The greediest time of the year is among us and I can’t wait!!! I’m a very picky eater. I’m also a very greedy eater so lifting forks is one of my hobbies. My passion for good food is what inspired the I Lift Forks Coloring Sheets.
As I age, I’m more considerate about how I lift forks and with what foods. For example, I don’t eat pork or foods that contain pork. I don’t like some of my foods to touch each other on my plate. After I eat a series of heavy meals, I detox. I grew up Muslim in Roxbury, MA for most of my childhood on my father’s side. We ate very clean in my father’s household and did not celebrate holidays. The only drinks that were in the refrigerator were water, orange juice and milk for my entire childhood. However, I had a grandmother that did celebrate holidays so we went to her house for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Kwanzaa.
My grandmother made bread rolls fresh and baked them herself. Her other signature dish were her green beans with garlic. The best! We drank a special punch that she would put together. Today, this is the punch that I make for my daughter during the holiday season meals. You have to get just the right amount of each part to give it the perfect tang in taste. I never did learn to make her bread rolls.
One of my holiday traditions is to let my daughter decide what kind of pie she would like me to bake-Apple, Blueberry or No Bake Strawberry. This year, my 2024 fall holiday menu is going to be simple:
Lemon Pepper Wings
Collard Greens with Turkey
Candied Yams
Mac n Cheese
Cornbread
White Rice
Homemade Apple Pie w/ crust made from scratch
Grandma’s Fruit Punch
Brown N Serve Rolls
I’m not in the mood to put in the work to bake a turkey. Maybe next year.
I wish you all a wonderful fall season celebration with many occasions to gather with friends and family.
Life and Love,
~Ayesha
